Is this a non-smoking house?
Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors.
During summer wildfire season extreme care is required when smoking outside.
How many beds are there?
There is a king sized bed in the master bedroom, two single Murphy beds
in the guest room/bedroom, a queen bed in one bedroom, and two single beds in the other bedroom.
The maximum occupancy for the property is 8.
Is the water safe to drink?
The water has been tested and is safe to drink. It is from a deep well,
has low mineral content and is filtered for solids. During the summer it is important to be mindful of water use as the well water
levels tend to be lower.
How does the septic system work?
There is a septic tank and pump system. We must stress the need for care of the
septic system. Deposits of toilet tissue need to be minimized, with no foreign
paper or other items being introduced.
Who are my neighbours?
The neighbours live on acreages on Strathcona Heights Road and Baldy Mountain Road
and enjoy their privacy and quiet. The property is very quiet and noise carries
easily across the mountainside. If you play music outside or loudly,
please respect the neighbours and turn it down very low between the hours of
11 pm and 7 am.
What happens with Security Deposits?
Rental and pet security deposits will be returned by mail within 7 days of your departure,
and subject to deduction for excess cleaning and/or damage.
What times are check-in and check-out?
Check in time is 4pm on the day of your arrival and check out time is 11am on the day of your departure.
PLEASE NOTE: Late check-outs will be charged at a rate of $25 per hour.
How does the housekeeping work?
Housekeeping is your responsibility! The arrangement is simply "leave the house as you found it." All housework
(dishes, vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen, etc) is to be done by you before your departure.
All dishes should be washed and put away. Towels should be washed, dried and put away.
The only exception is linens, which will be taken care of by our housekeeper at the end of your stay. Because there is a
short time allowance between guests, please strip the bed(s) and get the linens started in the washer and dryer.
Leave a note for us regarding what is clean. Note that additional housekeeping services will be charged back to you
at a rate of $25 per hour.
What about garbage?
Garbage goes into the blue containers in the garage.
What about kitchen waste and compost?
Compost goes into the bucket on the counter, and then
into the black compost container beside the woodshed.
What about recycling?
Recyclable material must be separated from regular garbage to comply with local waste
collection restrictions. Please place paper, plastic, metal and glass in the yellow-plastic reycling
bags in the garage.
What appliances are included?
The fully equipped kitchen has a fridge, electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, coffee grinder,
popcorn maker, toaster and other small appliances. We also have a washer and dryer and upright
freezer downstairs.
Can we host a party?
The property is very quiet and noise carries easily across the mountainside.
If you play music outside or loudly, please respect the neighbours and turn it down
very low between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are subject to approval prior to your arrival and will be assessed a $50 per week surcharge. A pet deposit equal to the rental
security deposit will be required and deductions will be made for any damage.
Can we fish in Shawnigan Lake?
Yes. There are a number of different species of game fish in the lake including trout and bass.
Bass fishing is good in the summer - especially near sunset. Please be sure that you have
the appropriate license and have read the Provincial regulations.
How is the garden maintained?
Areas around the house will be maintained
by a landscaping service.
Is there a TV?
Yes. There is a TV (with DVD and basic cable) in the downstairs family room and a CD player upstairs
in the living room. Movie rentals are available in Shawnigan Village or Mill Bay.
Please do not move any of the equipment - it works just fine the way it is installed.
Is there a phone?
Yes. Please note that all outgoing long distance and other toll calls have been blocked
on the phone service so you will require a calling card or cell phone for long-distance
calls. The free calling area from the house extends from Duncan to Victoria.
What about internet access?
Yes! We have Shaw high speed internet access. Just plug your computer into the
CAT5 cable provided in the office or two of the bedrooms. There are telephone outlets for those who need dial-up access.
How do I reach you when we are staying at the house?
We can be reached in Vancouver at (604) 228-0771 (residence). Local emergency number: 477-4712.
How do I book my week?
To secure your reservation we must receive two cheques within a week of booking.
The first is a 50% deposit (current dated). The second is for the balance plus a
$500 damage deposit post-dated for one month prior to occupancy of the house. The
damage deposit will be returned by mail within seven days following your departure.
Where do I send payment?

How do I deal with keys?
Keys will be left in the lockbox. We will give you the code in advance of your arrival.
When you depart please leave your keys where you found them.
